tell me about your mass/church experience

church goerswe went to a different church tonight for mass as our day was crammed with good stuff to do, none of which was bookkeeping (bogner, if you're reading this, come in and berate me a bit for that, will ya?)

we went to mass at another parish a couple of towns away. we've been there before, one of the best homilists ever was presiding (bless God) and what was cool was at the beginning of mass, the music minister invited anyone within the body of the church to come join them in the choir to help sing praises to God.

if molly didn't *need* my presence next to her, i may have just done that.

the readings were wonderful ~~

Sunday, June 5, 2005 Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
First Reading:Gospel: Hosea 6:3-6
Psalm: Psalm 50:1, 8, 12-15
Second reading: Romans 4:18-25
Gospel: Matthew 9:9-13
Matthew 9: 9 - 13
As Jesus passed on from there, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax office; and he said to him, "Follow me." And he rose and followed him. And as he sat at table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat down with Jesus and his disciples. And when the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?" But when he heard it, he said, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. Go and learn what this means, `I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.' For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners."
for the record, one of my favorite of all time scripture passages. i would like to think when Jesus said "those who are well have no need of a physician," He was referring to me.

but i know better.

the first reading ties into the mercy/sacrifice idea. it would have been a perfect time for fr. chuck to tie in the lessons but he was very *tangential* tonight. shame, because we all could use a good teaching every now and again. well, at least i do. and make that more *now* than *again*...

how was mass/church for you today?
