how lovely are your branches.

my dishwasher, mike, who i talked about during the summer as being the one who helped me out at our bbq, is married with three small children. we help him out financially when we can, but for the most part, he is hurting for money. all the time.

i was off yesterday, but from what i understand mike was telling my servers L & M about not having any money for Christmas because his wife's car broke down and they had to take their kids' toys off of lay-away in order to pay for car repairs; they didn't even have a Christmas tree up this year. he told me the same story on thursday of last week, but i knew we were going to give him some Christmas money, so i knew it would off-set things a little bit.

one of my customers overheard the conversation - he sits behind the soda machine, reads the paper, talks occasionally to my servers about politics - and left after he was finished his breakfast. he returned one hour later and told my server L to send mike outside to meet him near his car.

he had just come back from purchasing a Christmas tree for mike and his family. he also gave my server L $100 to go and buy ornaments and decorations for them, which she left work early to do so and returned with quite an array.

michael was blown away. i was stunned when i found this out today and as he excitedly told me his wife just started to cry and the children were beside themselves with excitement. he was so incredibly happy today. what a joy to see him feel so blessed.

it is so touching to see how this community of people come out for those they only know as acquaintances.

pretty neat.
