"mom, i might have to serve a saturday detention..."

"really?"

"yeah."

"well, are you going to tell me what you did?" i asked of my 12 year-old, previously no rap-sheet daughter...

"i started a food fight at lunch time and three other girls were blamed and they are serving a detention and that is just not right."

(i smiled inwardly as i was channel surfing this past weekend and happened upon animal house and had to stay and watch the food fight scene...i thought she was in another room at the time. am i culpable?)

"so you are going to turn yourself in."

"yes. it is the right thing to do. that, and we will be our own *breakfast club* because all of my friends will be there."

so what began as a noble gesture was just a good excuse to hang with the girls on saturday at school?

nah. she really is doing it because three took the fall for something she and her best friend started.

they are appearing before the principal at 8:15 a.m. tomorrow. i will be at work, but expect the phone call.

(what a kid, eh? i have a tear, i am so proud :)
