martha, martha...

this morning was the presentation of the Lord and the annual blessing of the candles at daily mass. we also have Eucharistic adoration from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., just prior to the start of mass.

Monsignor told us to bring in our candles and place them on the altar for blessing at the conclusion of mass yesterday. when i came in this morning, i saw candles on the altar, alongside of the Blessed Sacrament. please don't think i am being legalistic, but NOTHING should be on the altar when the Blessed Sacrament is exposed. i told my friend who sits next to me and wanted to go make sure so i left the church and sought out Monsignor.

he was in the rectory with two of his secretaries and his dog, toots. i asked him what the deal was and he said he thought folks would have enough sense not to do that, but i said "Monsignor, they are only following your instructions from yesterday."

"are there candles up there?"
"yes."
"did Jesus say anything when they put the candles up there?"
"no -- He's just that good!" (laughing)
"He's too good!" - we all laughed -
"i worry about many things, huh?"
"remember, martha - mary has chosen the better way..."
"i so long to be mary, but i am so worried about everything being *right*, i simply can't get there!!"

mass was lovely and went off without a hitch. candles were blessed, i feel blessed and am not worrying any more.

about that.
