question o' the day: to ask my Catholic friends a question (actually my Christian friends, as well as Jewish friends and perhaps the occasional Islamic friend can answer too...)
how do you feel about the Church's teaching about in vitro fertilization? while considered unacceptable if a couple dissociates the sexual act from the procreative act, do you feel "whatever means necessary" to conceive a child?
because it is what the Church teaches -- would you not expect a priest to counsel a couple upon hearing the news that they are going for i.v.f. to pray about their decision -- if you didn't know that what you were going to have done was considered "gravely immoral" in the eyes of the Church - would you not want to be informed so you can make an appropriately-guided decision?
final question: if you were the priest in this instance, would you not have looked upon this as a "teachable moment?" if the priest is not to be the one to lead and guide into the truth of the Church's teachings, then who?
this is a totally serious question and i would love to hear what your responses are. because of the sensitivity of this issue, i expect all who enter to be adult and mature in replies; i have a delete button and am not afraid to use it...
