Two Talent Living - Ok, everybody take a deep breath!
interesting how things play out. i was disappointed that i wasn't the *winner* of the blogs of beauty award for best comments because i think you, my friends, are the best commenters around.
since the results of the "contest" have been revealed, however, it's taken on a life of its own over at sallie's blog at twotalentliving. now the boundaries and parameters for posting in the "carnival of beauty" are in place, i feel (again) like i have to bow out of even entering a thought or two. (remember back in june when the whole intellectuelle thing came around and i was disappointed? it's sort of along those same lines...)
in her initial "carnival rules," sallie was very clear on it being for women who believe in the Nicene Creed. okay, i am about that. love the Creed. say it all the time, i'm like that. then, in the follow-up thread when the carnival was ready to start, in the "who can participate?" clause, i am going to quote:
since sallie is the "jeff probst" of the carnival, she is her own tribe and has spoken; i can respect that.Who can participate?
Any Christian woman can participate as long as she falls under these guidelines:
1. Is in personal agreement with the Nicene Creed.
2. Is in personal agreement with the following statement: I believe in the Godhead of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit as revealed in the Holy Bible. I believe that Jesus Christ is the only Son of God and my only means for the forgiveness of my sins and my salvation. My salvation is found in no one but Jesus Christ.
3. Is not a Mormon, Jehovah’s Witness, or Seventh Day Adventist.
4. Does not promote the emergent conversation/movement/whatever on her blog.
5. Does not promote theological distinctives in her Carnival post so as to refrain from controversial debate.
(These guidelines are not open to debate.)(emphasis added)
but -- call me silly -- what is wrong with the emergent church? isn't it simply a movement that strives to bring the sacred/ancient close to the modern-type thinker?
because i read "Blue Like Jazz," does that leave me out? i've mentioned it several times and have even posted a picture of the cover on my blog. i am now reading "the radical reformission" by mark driscoll because the cool guy at the Christian bookstore said i'd love it and it was 40% off (so i not only support the emergent church, i do so at a discounted rate...)
what am i not *getting* here? i am a Roman Catholic with thoughts and feelings and questions and some of the best blogs i visit are emerging church-type blogs.
or maybe they do ascribe to a certain sect of Christianity - they just don't dialogue about where they *go to church* hmmm. what does that say about the company i keep, even if they don't know i am in their company? (i have bloglines and i'm not afraid to lurk...)
that i love them and would rather hang with them than compromise and go through my blog, deleting all things emergent.
God just help me put out another flame on m'self :)
