Every year, as a presenter/facilitator for our RCIA program at our parish, I am privileged to travel about an hour away to attend the Rite of Election** at a church were all the Catechumens and Candidates move further into their preparation for reception of the Sacraments at the Easter Vigil; we all attend Mass with the Bishop and every year, I always think (and have even voiced to my husband) "boy, would I love to lector at this Mass." The first reading is read in English, the responsorial is sung by the Cantor who is usually a seminarian, the second reading is read in Spanish, then the Bishop reads the Gospel. It is quite an event.
This year they are not having it at one church -- the Diocese has grown so it is being split between two churches. Our parish is hosting the Southern Jersey Rite, and I am uncertain of who is hosting for the more *central* towns; the service is this Sunday at 5:00 p.m.
Guess who is the first Lector? (!!!)
I am so excited I could burst!!
I just have to rest my vocals and practice reading aloud to the cats in preparation....
**this document is from 2000, but is accurate in its description of the Rite of Election if you are interested in learning more...
