Shrove Tuesday

Shrove Tuesday

Excellent article, above, describing why Fat Tuesday is called Fat Tuesday, same for Shrove Tuesday, Donut Day, Mardi Gras.....worth a read if you are all about origins :)

It's the Christmas Eve of Lent for me. I have a habit of looking back at what was going on a year ago but this year, I am simply going to look forward. Tonight while I am still at work, my husband is taking the kids to our church's annual pancake supper. Unfortunately, I will have to miss out on the fellowship, but I will eat a graham cracker simultaneously so I can pretend I am there.

Looking ahead to Lent: I believe the flu is starting to leave my body even though I am exhausted (and yes, I went to work yesterday and am returning today, don't holler, ty...) and still with a wicked cough throughout the night. I have no fever this morning, thank God.

I am one of the Lectors at Mass tomorrow night and my husband is helping by being Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist and distributing ashes. I have my books ready for reading daily - The Way of the Cross by Caryll Houselander and The Dolorous Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Anne Catherine Emmerich. I am ready to retreat a little bit, to reconnect. In other words: I am ready. Are you ready?

What type of journey do you feel you will be embarking upon?

Come, Lord. We are waiting.
