after 30 (or so) years of wearing glasses...

Healing the Blind

...i thought i would tell y'all i got contact lenses yesterday!!

silly, i know, but even sillier is my phobia of sticking something into my eyes without a numbing agent so guess who has to go back to the doctor's once a month to have them removed and then new ones put in?

(I AM SUCH A BABY. I ADMIT IT AND I HAVE NO SHAME.)

yep, a monthly prescription and it is so far so worth it, save for the inordinate amount of blinking i am doing.

::blink, blink::

part of the reason behind my decision to modernize is because in the O.R., i have to wear my glasses and a shield and they both get foggy and it is impossible to push my glasses up my nose once i am scrubbed in. amazing how a part-time job can have such a tremendous effect on me in more ways than one. the other reason is simplistic: just being able to wear sunglasses that are a few bucks and are okay to lose, not the prescription ones that have been misplaced or that one pair that floated out to sea...

if only Jesus were here and He could have made a paste of dirt and spit....then i'd have no need for a prescription at all :)

Oh, I get that sunglasses thing. I wear glasses all the time, and was considering making the switch to contacts.

I'm not sure whether the expense is doable at this point (college tuition, you know), but you've given me something to think about.

Kind of that, if penni can do it, can't I? kind of thing......

mama t, i unfortunately have dismissed the idea of ever poking a contact lens into my eye -- i will be writing about it later, but the swelling in my eyes have gone down enough to see i am not the "type" to wear them. too traumatizing!!

but you are stronger than i, so i believe you will be fine :)

I started to post this a couple days back - and somehow fiddled where I should have faddled, I guess...

Anyway, just color me sour-apple green with envy.

My distance vision is getting rather "impressionistic," but I am doomed to glasses because my eyes just don't tear-up enough to keep contacts moist. (it's also why I'm a lousy surgical risk for Lasik, too.)

And I'm also with you about needing Jesus - I'd be willing to touch the hem of his robe on any number of causes...

And I also have to admit that I get really, really envious of all the images you post. They're just beautiful, and add so richly to your posts. (Call it fluorescent sour apple green....)

I just found your post with my painting - I Googled myself out of curiosity. I am very pleased that you shared my work on your interesting blog. How are the contact lenses? As a Parkinson's sufferer I have also sometimes thought "If only Jesus..." - but then, He IS here, and His strength is made perfect in my weakness. Best wishes, Zak Benjamin (using my wife's Google account to sign in)
