The Absinthe Drinker,
(Femme ivre se fatigue). Pablo Picasso, 1902
~+~+~
this link leads to an article (a very good one, actually) that describes this as the "drink of choice" for 19th century painters, poets and writers. if i hadn't just hopped on the wagon m'self, i'd be curious to try it. at least one of the ingredients in this drink, thujone, is described as "keeping the drinker lucid even as he succumbs to the pleasant lull of alcohol."
ahhh. sweet sobriety.
not surprisingly, this piece is from Picasso's "Blue Period."
