fresh ink

as many of you know, i am a pretty serious person.  i take sobriety seriously, feel raising children is a serious business, stay serious and focused about my job, and i try not to mess with God, who i am Most Serious About.

i take life very seriously.

there are times i try not to take myself so seriously, which is usually when i get a tattoo.  most of my tatts are Judeo-Christian because if i am going to imprint anything on me, i would prefer it be to honor God.  the only one that isn't overtly Christian (my hummingbird) is a symbol of my sobriety - hummingbirds represent resurrection, rebirth in some cultures - in my mind, my wee hummingbird is still (in my opinion) honoring God.

i went this past friday and sat for 3 hours with my artist, diane.  my favorite scripture since i was 13 is (in part) Psalm 8:3-4 - When I consider Thy heavens, the moon and the stars which thou hast ordained -- what is man, that thou art mindful of him?  so many nights i have gazed at the stars, wondered at Creation, and thought of God's immense love for us that he could create us mere humans after creating the world.

so i have it on my back.  i asked my artist to add stars and make it as whimsical as possible without being tacky or "cutesy" - she did her thang and i am thrilled with the results.

no matter how serious i am, no matter how life can get "lifey" - i am reminded that i have a God that is greater than i am and that i really shouldn't take myself so seriously.  [it's rather humbling.]
