happy mother's day :)

tomato plantsi don't know how much you know about new jersey, but our nickname is *the garden state* and in the summertime, we have the best tomatoes, corn and blueberries anywhere - we go to the farms and use fresh produce, things that are harvested that day (even at times within minutes) - it makes all the difference, but i digress.

when we opened a restaurant, we knew we would always be different when it came to celebrating holidays - for instance, most restaurants give moms a single stem carnation, which is lovely, but lasts only for a day or two. for mother's day, we don't give out flowers - we give out baby tomato plants in terra cotta pots. moms love it and we hear all summer about how many tomatoes everyone is producing...it's fun. i got up at 3:45 this morning to pot them all prior to my husband leaving for work. 100 plants in all! (i must really love my moms...)

as e.e. cummings once said:
"i thank God someone is crazy enough to give me a tomato plant..."
(or was that daisy??)

happy mother's day :)
