pet issues

two out of my four animals are acting a bit odd.

lily has lost weight. a lot of weight. you can feel her ribs and backbone very easily and since i have a new tower and have to jump through hoops to reaccess my old photographs, i will simply have to beg your indulgence and trust on this because i have no "fuller lily" pics to show you.

herbie, our camera-shy dog and pretty much the bane of my existence (he's a dog, really!) is acting out of character, too. he is one of those pets who, when it is 32 degrees out, does his *thang* and runs right back to the door to be let back in. Max reported that herbie woke him up at 4 a.m. scratching to get outside and all he did once out was sit on our deck. it was freeeezing outside but max said it took about 20 minutes to get him back in. when i woke up at 8, max said he had just let him out and again, he was on the deck and it took me until 9:30 to get him back inside.

he is the very same dog that, if given ample opportunity and a soft spot near a fence, will dig out of our yard and go exploring. the neighborhood knows he is ours after 7 years of ownership, but when he escapes and is gone for hours, we have found him in the pound, in lock-up and this has happened twice in the last month. add to this his kooky behavior for wanting to be outside in the bitter cold, we are not sure what is happening.

i implore you, gentle readers, to lavish upon me your vast knowledge of the animal kingdom and their quirky behaviors because taking both animals to the vet would pretty much cancel out Christmas for the family this year.

the comments box is open to veterinarian advices. thanks in advance.

first day of school...a tale in 20 mins. of pics

...for my freshman girl and my senior boy (oldest one began nursing school this week...no photo op since he is living with his wife ;)

totally mortified, only 20 mins left...

she looks at pic of hands covering face and shreiks: "omg, my hair is not straight in the back -- Mooo-om, you gotta DO SOMETHING. " panic sets in as i turn the straightener back on. (crisis averted, narrowly...)

"don't make me pose, i am 14 years old!!! ugh!!" ( i am thinking it was a good idea a few minutes prior to show the extreme wave in her hair, no??)

"do we have to leave now?" she passed whiny 10 minutes prior...i actually could feel her pain, i relived it with her for a few moments just before i hugged her good-bye...

(max is totally unaffected by all of this, save for the fact he can drive to school this year....)

happy first day of school, everyone!!

P.S. just editing to add a little cat blogging...Petey amongst the chaos of school supplies...molly survived her day, by the way but as of the typing of this addendum, has already showered and has her jammies on; she's beat :)

a little cat blogging

it is time. usually when i have nothing to say (but i really have much to say!! i am just holding back...), i go in for the cat blogging.

this first representative is petey atop the computer (reminds me of "there's a penguin on the telly vision set!"). i must point out that the fine background picture was provided by the uber-talented captoe without his knowledge. i am not sure if i am violating his rights, but i am certain he will tell me if he has ascertained that i have. in the meantime, go check him out.

second picture is of my lily. my husband is cleaning up the yard since it has been sorely neglected for, say, about 7 years but now that the restaurant is closed, he spends his days off outside and is a happy camper to do so. today, he found daisy's cat collar, so i think when he showed lily, she became a little pensive and sat and stared outside for about an hour. this was the capture of that moment.

(no i really don't think it is why she was pensive; i believe she had eyed up a squirrel that looked a bit yummy. i am not that far over the edge, folks!)
